Upcoming Skating Rink at Downtown Charlotte Baseball Stadium
The Charlotte Knights minor league baseball team revealed plans Thursday for a regulation-sized ice rink and tube slide rink at Truist Field in downtown.
The six-lane tubing rink and track will highlight the team’s expanded “Light the Knights Festival,” scheduled for Nov. 23 through Jan. 8, team officials said.
The third annual event will also include Christmas lights, entertainment, concessions on the grounds, gift vendors and visits from Santa Claus.
“We hope to attract people of all ages as our annual festival continues to grow,” Dan Rajkowski, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Knights, said Thursday in a press release unveiling the plans.
In addition to public skating, the Knights plan to bring youth and adult figure skaters and hockey players to the rink.
Everyone will also be able to use the tubing track in left field, according to the team, whose 2022 season opens April 12 at the downtown ballpark.
The COVID-19 pandemic canceled another downtown outdoor rink in 2020 and 2021 — the annual “Holiday on Ice” rink at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. No 2022 plans for this event have been announced.
COVID has also canceled the annual Winter Wonderland SouthPark Ice Rink at the SouthPark Mall.
