Skating lessons offered at two local rinks

If you want your kids to be comfortable on the ice, Learn to Skate USA is starting its winter lessons.

They have 8 week classes on Sundays and Wednesdays at the Compton Family Ice Arena in Notre Dame starting January 15th. There is also a 6 week lesson at the Ice Box rink in South Bend which begins Friday January 13th. Classes take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday and Wednesday and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

6-week classes cost $ 60 with an additional Learn to Skate Club membership fee of $ 20. 8 week lessons cost $ 88 with an additional cost for skate rental and membership.

The goal of the program is to make people more comfortable on the ice and in life.

“I think there’s a big part of the fact that when you gain confidence on the ice you’re more confident in school or when dealing with peers or siblings,” says instructor Molly. Mahoney.

You don’t need to have any experience. They take skaters as young as two years old to adults. Students are divided into groups according to their age and abilities. Parents can join two and three year olds on the ice to facilitate the learning process.

Their adapted skating program takes place on Thursdays and is aimed at children with special needs. They have full size walkers so kids don’t have to bend over and walkers with limited mobility so they can sit up.
