The West Fraser Center was filled with flips, toe curls and salchows as the Quesnel Figure Skating Club held its Back Where We Belong Gala on Saturday March 12.

It was the club’s first gala since March 11, 2020, when the World Health Organization declared a global COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to 24 solo performances, participants in the Learn to Skate Plus program showed their progress over the previous year.

“Skaters were able to compete in some events without spectators, but this was the first time we were able to invite our skaters to a gala in two years,” said coach Carly Dinicol after the gala.

“We were all so excited to be able to invite the community to see what our skaters have accomplished. The challenges we’ve overcome over the past two years and the restrictions haven’t stopped our skaters from excelling.

Quesnel’s synchronized skating team also performed at the gala.
