New Santa Ana | Temporary ice rink arrives in Santa Ana in December
SANTA ANA, Calif .– Residents of Santa Ana will be able to enjoy a public ice rink this winter and will see more cleaning and disinfection of high traffic pedestrian and bicycle areas, thanks to city council approval of two new Revive Santa Ana measures Tuesday, September 7.
An agreement with Seaside Ice, LLC, or Ice-America, will allow the installation of a temporary portable ice rink in the plaza by the City of Santa Ana. The ice rink will be part of the Santa Ana Winter Village, which will feature food, shows and other activities. The Winter Village will open in December for four weeks.
Council also approved an increase in compensation for Landscape West Management Services, Inc. by $ 1 million in the current fiscal year to improve the cleaning and disinfection of public pedestrian and bicycle lanes. In addition, two new maintenance worker positions at the Agence des travaux publics will be added for a limited period of five years in order to continue these efforts.
Revive Santa Ana, which is funded by the US Federal Rescue Plan Act 2021 (ARPA), is designed to provide short-term financial and health assistance, as well as to meet long-term health care needs, education, youth and others in response to the covid pandemic19. In July, city council approved an $ 80 million spending plan for the first half of the initiative.
As allowed by ARPA, the rink will promote healthier living environments, outdoor recreation and socialization to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in a disproportionately affected community. Cleaning and disinfection efforts will improve outdoor public spaces to encourage safe and healthy activities and potentially reduce the spread of COVID-19.
More details on the Winter Village will be announced closer to the opening date. To learn more about Revive Santa Ana, visit https://www.santa-ana.org/revive-santa-ana.
