Kelowna is getting the Stuart Park rink ready in time for residents to skate in December.
The outdoor rink will be open to the public for free skating on Dec. 1 at 9 a.m., depending on the weather, according to a press release from the City of Kelowna.
“We look forward to welcoming the community to enjoy outdoor skating at the Stuart Park rink this season,” city supervisor for arenas and stadiums Steve Fagan said in the statement.
“Skating at Stuart Park is one of the highlights of winter in Kelowna and we are excited to return to a casual, walk-in model, but encourage all participants to be careful and considerate of others. . ”
Residents can check ice and crowd conditions on a still image live camera before going to the ice rink. The live webcam is updated every two minutes.
Skates are available to rent daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., however the rental store will be closed on December 25.
All skaters are asked to follow the rink rules and are encouraged to wear a helmet.
“We encourage everyone coming to the rink to check the live camera ahead of time to avoid clutter,” said Fagan.
“It is important for the community to work together and warn each other, as overcrowding can lead to further restrictions or closures in a pandemic environment.”
