Irvine: Free swimming and skating lessons for children under 17

FREE swimming and ice skating lessons for children up to 17 are held throughout North Ayrshire.

Classes will be held Monday through Friday at Auchenharvie Recreation Center, Garnock Community Campus, Portal in Irvine, and Vikingar! in Largs.

The result of a partnership between KA Leisure and North Ayrshire Council, the initiative will run until August 17, giving children a whole summer of free activities.

Seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and no pre-booking is required.

A representative from KA Leisure said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with North Ayrshire Council to provide free swimming and skating over the summer period. The promotion helps families ensure that cost is not a barrier to keeping children and youth having fun and staying active.

Along with free swimming and ice-skating lessons, 18 community centers in the region will offer free school meals during the summer holidays to primary and secondary school children who are entitled to free meals during school terms.

These 18 centres, plus four more in the region, will also host free activities for all school children during the holidays.

Free drama lessons are also available for schoolchildren during the summer holidays with the Largs Youth Theater holding their drama summer camp from July 25-29.
