Ice skating lessons at Lefrak Center in Brooklyn

Rockefeller Center isn’t the only place to ice skate this winter. News 12 visited the Lefrak Center in Lakeside Brooklyn to take skating lessons with two Olympians.

When the weather gets colder, New Yorkers pull out their ice skates. Many head to Rockefeller Center or Bryant Park, but tucked away in Prospect Park in Brooklyn is a 26-acre winter wonderland ruled by two professional skaters. The center is led by Denis Petukhov and Melisa Gregory, former Olympic skaters and four-time silver medalists in the United States.

“Anyone looking for winter recreation, this is the place to come,” says Gregory.

With two rinks, the Lakeside center offers ice skating and a hockey league. The space also offers boating, lessons and more. Unlike other ice rinks in town, this is not just a treat for the holidays, but year round with roller skating in the warmer months.

“Lots of kids who start from the ground up and progress through programming quite quickly. We have kids who never put on skates and see them do jumps, spins and play hockey. It’s definitely rewarding.” , says Petukhov.

They say it is gratifying to pass their love of winter sports on to the community.

Whether you’re taking a lesson or just trying something new, the center is open seven days a week and tickets can be purchased in line.
