Convention Center Winter Festival with Ice Rink

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) – Here’s something that will have you looking forward to the holidays.

The Hawaii Convention Center announced Thursday that it will install an ice rink inside the facility during the holiday season. And figure skating champion Kristi Yamaguchi will even be there to spread the joy.

“I mean, ice cream in Hawaii is a novelty, isn’t it?” she said. “And I think the opportunity doesn’t come around that often. You know, you always associate ice skating with vacations.

The Olympic gold medalist and two-time world champion will celebrate with other revelers at the convention center exhibit hall ice rink.

“It’s going to be surrounded by, you know, holiday activities and food and drink and arts and crafts. So it’s a really fun and festive atmosphere that will be here,” Yamaguchi said.

The event ― “Winter Wishes-A Holiday Festival” ― begins Nov. 29 at the convention center.

A portion of the proceeds will go to Yamaguchi’s “Always Dream Foundation,” which supports early childhood literacy.

Yamaguchi has been visiting Hawaii for decades and owns a home in Maui. His daughters also skate, but one of them also has another passion: Hula!
