Kelowna is getting the Stuart Park rink ready in time for residents to skate in December.

The outdoor rink will be open to the public for free skating on Dec. 1 at 9 a.m., depending on the weather, according to a press release from the City of Kelowna.

“We look forward to welcoming the community to enjoy outdoor skating at the Stuart Park rink this season,” city supervisor for arenas and stadiums Steve Fagan said in the statement.

Residents can check ice and crowd conditions on a still image live camera before going to the ice rink. The live webcam is updated every two minutes.

All skaters are asked to follow the rink rules and are encouraged to wear a helmet.

“We encourage everyone coming to the rink to check the live camera ahead of time to avoid clutter,” said Fagan.

“It is important for the community to work together and warn each other, as overcrowding can lead to further restrictions or closures in a pandemic environment.”

The City also reminds skaters that if the outdoor rink is too busy, they can enjoy an indoor skate To Capital News Center, Memorial arena and Rutland Arena.

LAPORTE – An ice-free rink is being built in LaPorte after a church surpassed its fundraising target to pay for equipment.

This episode of the “Riding Shotgun with NWI Cops” series takes viewers behind armored vehicles and shields to see what it’s like to be on the Lake County Sheriff’s SWAT team.

Bethany Lutheran Church had hoped to raise $ 35,000 in 35 days. He surpassed this goal on the 22nd day of training.

A donation of $ 2,600 came from Industrial Lumber Products to put the record on top, said Carrie Garwood, a church member.

Garwood said she was only slightly surprised at how quickly the goal was reached due to the success of other church fundraisers in the past.

“It’s always amazing how many different people in the community come forward,” she said.

Money from the fundraising campaign, which began Oct. 27, was used to secure a $ 35,000 grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority to pay for the rink.

Garwood said funds must be raised by November 30 to secure the matching grant.

Assembly of the rink began on Tuesday when a truck delivering the equipment arrived just before 8 a.m.

The 1,300 square foot ice rink, which opens to the public on Friday, is across LaPark Street, directly across from the church at 102 G St.

The volunteers who assembled the rink were impressed by the proximity of the 90 hard synthetic surface panels that fit together like a puzzle. It was like real ice cream, they said.

Tuesday, November 9, 2021 – A new attraction for downtown Bardstown will be set up in time for Light Up Bardstown on Friday, November 26 – an ice rink at the Farmer’s Market Pavillion.

Lisa Thomas, executive director of the Bardstown-Nelson County Chamber of Commerce, told Bardstown City Council at its Tuesday meeting that a Danville company would place the rink under the pavilion footprint for use during Light Up Bardstown on Friday, November 9. 26 and Shop Small Saturday November 27.

The rink would allow up to 40 people to skate at the same time. The plan is to offer 30 minute skating sessions to those who register in advance. The cost per session is expected to be $ 5, she said.

They can provide special times for children and adults with disabilities to skate, Thomas told the council.

The goal is to add something new and different to downtown for ‘Light Up Bardstown’, one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.

Although the rink may occupy a few parking spaces, Thomas said they hope to give up to 500 people a unique opportunity to ice skate in downtown Bardstown over the two days.

ILLUMINATE BARDSTOWN AND CHRISTMAS PARADE. City Council approved the requested street closures for Light Up Bardstown on Friday, November 26, which will include areas around Court Square and the first block of North Third Street.

The board also approved the itinerary for the 2021 Christmas parade scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 2. The route will follow the long established route of starting at West Broadway, traveling from West Broadway to North Third and turning south to Court Square. . No parking signs will be placed on North Third Street prior to the parade.

AWARD OF TENDER OF WOODEN SEWER PIPE. Council approved a low bid of $ 933,200 from Schroeder Construction of Elizabethtown for a sewer line extension to service future growth in the Woodlawn area and along Filiatreau Lane. The new pipeline will eliminate an existing sewer pumping station.

The city had budgeted $ 1.4 million for this project.

IMPROVEMENT OF THE TOWNE CREEK SEWER PLANT. City engineer Jessica Filiatreau said some of the plant’s treatment processes have not been updated since the 1960s. In addition to the ongoing ongoing cleanup of the lagoons at the Gilkey Run facility, she said that it would seek grants that will allow the plant to eventually expand its capacity and upgrade treatment processes in the future.

In other matters, counsel:

– approved a resolution approving a memorandum of understanding to accept $ 45,975 in discretionary funds from the state of Kentucky for the repaving of the part of town of Spencer Mattingly Lane.

– approved a proclamation setting aside National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week from November 13-21, 2021 in Bardstown.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill (WAND) – The grand opening of a synthetic ice rink in downtown Springfield took place on Saturday.

As WAND shared before the opening, a group of high school students from Sangamon County brought the rink to the grounds of the Old State Capitol.

The group is called Sangamon County CEO and provides high school students with hands-on experience of running a business.

The main host of the program, Nabih Elhajj, said after the success of the ice rink they had behind Scheels last year, they wanted to find a new location.

“We thought it was a place that could bring the whole community together from all sides of the city,” Elhajj said. “The backdrop to the Old State Capitol, the story of this space, we thought it was a great place for us.”

Students like Chandana Poola said this was a great opportunity to gain high school business experience.

“You get the hands-on experience of going and meeting people and really loving thinking about what it takes to run a business, all the logistics that go with it,” Poola said. “All the challenges we have, we have to find solutions.”

The high school students oversee all aspects of the rink, from project planning to management.

LANSING, Michigan – It’s the most wonderful time of year in downtown Lansing. The state Christmas tree is in place, the holiday decorations are in place and now the ice rink is back in front of City Hall and ready for the holiday season.

“We have installed an ice rink outside of Town Hall as an additional fun activity in our downtown area. It was generously donated by the Community Foundation, ”said Mayor Andy Schor. “We want to provide the amenities and an exciting, vibrant city and a fun downtown. We know we’ve struggled with COVID. And people don’t come out. They don’t go downtown as much as they do. before. But here you have an outdoor option.

The synthetic ice rink is over 3,300 square feet and is located directly on Town Hall Square.

And the best part is, it won’t melt.

Tianna Jenkins, WSYM, November 2021

“We have a plastic sheet here. So it’s available all the time, which means it’s not affected by the weather, we don’t have a cooling system underneath,” said Brett Kaschinske, director of parks and recreation for the city of Lansing. “If you have a younger one, whereas if you want to teach him or help him to ice skate, that would be very difficult about that, it’s a little nicer to go out and help that individual skate. . “

The ice rink is free for the public. Officials say it will be open until the end of March and dismantled in April.

You can skate until 10 p.m. everyday. Security cameras are in place and the area will be lit after dark.

“We’re trying to market you, skate rental or skate borrowing and stuff like that,” Schor said.

But for not, you will have to bring your own skates to enjoy the fun. Figure skates and hockey skates are permitted, but playing ice hockey on the rink is not permitted.

“We’re not saying you have to skate in one direction, but obviously you want to maintain the speed there,” Kaschinske said.

You are also reminded to pay attention to others around you while you are having fun. Heckling or eating and drinking is prohibited inside the rink.

The maximum capacity of the rink is 66 according to the State of Michigan and the Ingham County Department of Health. Masks and 6ft social distancing are also required.

Mr. Editor:

I think we can all agree after the past two years that we could use more fun in our lives, and the Mount Carroll Rotary Club wants to help make that possible this winter.

I have been fortunate to be associated with ice skating through my daughter’s competitive and professional skating for over 20 years. Ice skating is a wonderful winter activity for all ages and ability levels, and can provide a healthy, active and fun place for individuals, friends and families throughout the coming cold season.

Recent flooding destroyed the old Point Rock Park rink and the Rotary Club, in collaboration with the City of Mount Carroll and the West Carroll School District, accepted the challenge to rebuild the rink in a new location by the pool. . More information on the rink will follow in the Mirror-Democrat in the coming weeks.

Like most nonprofits, our fundraising efforts have been drastically reduced over the past two years, and we need your help to raise $ 2,300 by December 15th. The weather may not be cooperative, but we want to be ready as soon as it is. .

To help us achieve this goal, please consider making a donation to help the Rotary Club bring a new outdoor rink to our community. Your contribution may be payable to the Mt. Carroll Rotary Club and mailed to 210 E. Broadway, Mt. Carroll, IL, 61053.

With your help, we can create memories that will last a lifetime.

(Update, 11:40 a.m.) Pentagon Row Ice Rink open for the season last weekend, despite not quite wintry temperatures.

Starting the season a week earlier than last year, the skating rink of nearly 7,000 square feet located in the plaza at 1201 S. Joyce Street in Pentagon City, it is said to be “the largest outdoor rink in Northern Virginia” and the second largest in the state.

The rink will be open until mid-March, offering approximately four and a half months of skating time. There have been a few changes at the rink from last year when the capacity and mask restrictions were a bit tighter.

Masks are now optional while skating, an employee told ARLnow, unlike what was required last year, but they will still disinfect high-sensitivity areas, including skates and rails around the rink.

The capacity goes from the 50% mark in 2020 to full capacity. This means that the number of skaters allowed on the ice at any given time is doubling from 75 last year to 150. Social distancing is always requested on the ice, while waiting to get on the ice and on the ice. the rental facility, however.

There’s also a price change, with admission prices going up by a dollar from last season. It now costs $ 11 for ages 13 and up. For those under 13 and the elderly, admission is $ 10. Skate rental is $ 5.

Group and party rates are again offered as well as private skating lessons. Reservations for skating can always be done online.

Despite the name change of the S. Joyce Street shopping center at the end of last year to “Westpost”, the rink remains called “Pentagon Row Outdoor Ice Skating Rink”. However, that could change in the coming months, writes an ice rink manager in an email to ARLnow.

In 2013, the rink underwent a renovation that increased the size by 50% and added a double-sided stone outdoor fire pit to the side of the rink for those not on the ice.

The ice rink is open every day of the week, including public holidays:

  • Sunday 10 am-10pm
  • Monday 10 am-10pm
  • Tuesday 12 pm-10pm
  • Wednesday 12 pm-10pm
  • Thursday 12 pm-10pm
  • Friday 12 pm-11pm
  • Saturday 10 am-11pm

Holiday calendar:

  • Thanksgiving from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Christmas Eve 10 am-11pm
  • Christmas Day 10 am-11pm
  • December 26 – 30 10 am-11pm
