Bristol’s new ice rink announces skating lessons opening dates – here’s how to buy tickets
The new permanent ice rink at Cribbs Causeway has announced the opening date for skating lessons.
The attraction just off Merlin Road was originally scheduled to open in the spring of 2021, but there was a setback when operator Planet Ice said it focused on reopening all of its other venues when restrictions on locks have been relaxed.
The Cribbs Causeway attraction is part of a major new development led by Baylis Estates and will provide internationally standard skating facilities designed to accommodate a range of ice-related activities and sports.

With a capacity of 1,300 spectators, it will also become the new home of Bristol ice hockey team, the Bristol Pitbulls, who have played their home games at the Oxford ice rink since 2012 due to the closure of the old Bristol Ice Rink at Frogmore Street.
Located in The Venue Amusement Park in Cribbs Causeway, just off the M5, the ice rink will adjoin sites such as Vue Cinema and Hollywood Bowl, with plenty of parking and good public transport links.
Managing Director Hannah Thomas said: “We are already starting to receive requests for courses, coaching and facility rentals. It will be a fantastic attraction, we can’t wait to welcome everyone.
Hannah’s career began as Ice Marshall for a seasonal rink at We The Curious in Bristol, where she then progressed in task management before becoming their Visitor Experience Manager.
Hannah says her vision for the Cribbs Causeway rink centers on “an emphasis on creating and maintaining collaborative relationships within the local community to open the doors to ice sports.”
“As someone who grew up skating in Bristol, I am very happy to join the Planet Ice team to bring an ice rink back to the city. Construction is progressing really well; it was amazing to watch it take shape and come to life.
“We are currently recruiting and developing a team for the Bristol site while preparing the launch events for the fall. We’ll have more updates and some photos of the progress to show everyone in the coming weeks. “
The new rink will offer a range of Learn to Skate programs for all ages, public skating sessions, birthday party packages and events.
