A new outdoor ice rink has opened next to the Pearl Tower

Shanghai might not be what comes to mind when it comes to winter sports, but hey, things could change. After all, the world’s largest indoor ski resort is being built here and for the first time an outdoor ice rink has opened at one of the city’s most iconic sites, next to the Pearl Tower. – Ice Live is the very first “real ice cream” in town. outdoor ice rink according to Shanghai Observer.

Although not exactly Olympic standard, the 600 square meter ice rink still makes for quite a dazzling night skate with views of Huangpu and the Lujiazui skyline.

Admission costs 80RMB per hour on weekdays and 100RMB per hour on weekends and holidays (family tickets are also available for 150RMB, which includes admission for one adult and one child under 12). In an effort to get people excited about the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, the rink is working with the Feiyang Skating Center to hold demonstrations every Saturday and Sunday night – think figure skating, speed skating and in ice hockey.

Skates and protective gear (seal-shaped handlebar skates can grab hold of when shaking around the rink) are available for rent with a 50RMB deposit, and for those looking to work seriously on their skating skills, private skate coaches are also available for hire.

If you can brave the trip to one of the city’s biggest sights, access the ice rink through Gate 1 (the main entrance to the Pearl Tower) on the Lujiazui Ring Road before everything closes down. February 24.
